Demantoid Garnet - 2.19 ct
Diamonds - 0.56 ct, E - G, VVS2 - VS2
18 Carat White & Yellow Gold
8.6 grams gross - Size R (UK)
Demantoid is probably the most exotic gem in the garnet family. It is a beautiful green colour, ranging from yellow green to blue green, but with an internal fire and refraction that is greater than that of diamond.
Originally discovered in Russia and mined briefly in the 19th century, their beauty captivated Fabergé who used the stones frequently in his workshop. Until recently these gems were practically unobtainable, today they remain very rare.
This 2.19 carat stone is truly spectacular. Polished demantoids average less than half a carat, so this is a very large example. It also has impressive clarity, again a rare feature in demantoid. The perceived colour ranges from bright green in daylight to yellowish green under incandescent light with eye-catching flashes of blue and red.
Completely surrounded in fine white diamonds, the combined fire and sparkle are phenomenal. This is a unique and significant piece with timeless elegance.
